WHAT WE DID
Giuseppe & Sons is a new take on an old favorite. Inspired by the Termini family, this restaurant brings the timeless aspects of Italian, family-style dining to the heart of Center City Philadelphia. This bilevel space is divided into a luncheonette in the upstairs portion and a charming ristorante below. The RKA team was able to capture the classic style sought by Schulson Collective, creating an elegant and familiar-feeling space. As soon as you walk through the revolving door entrance, a custom-made bar is to the right. During the day, it functions as a coffee and dessert bar stocked with specialty creations by Termini Brothers Bakery, and at night it turns into a typical bar while still offering a variety of pastries and pies. The combination of the custom tile, blue wallpaper, and café-style seating give the luncheonette a quaint sandwich shop vibe.
UNIQUE TO THIS PROJECT
RKA constructed the wood staircase that leads down into a plaster hallway that is lined with family photos. Then you are in the ristorante which has an upscale, speakeasy feel with the long bar with the built-in lamps and custom plaster walls. The plush seating and family photos throughout enhance the at-home feel of the eatery. The ristorante includes three private dining areas that are separated by sliding wall panels, as well as different raised and sunken sections. RKA faced some challenges while working on Giuseppe & Son because to create the basement level they had to dig out 30 inches of the existing ground and an additional 24 inches had to be taken out to create the sunken areas. The final product is a true masterpiece that emphasizes the best of both fine dining and Italian tradition. Giuseppe & Sons is the perfect place to enjoy every meal from artisan pastas to cannoli, all made by recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.
