Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Howard is part-owner of the Blind Barber, a speakeasy with a barbershop in the front and a hidden bar area in the back that serves cocktails with each cut. The venue’s unusual name has its roots in Prohibition, when speakeasy bars were often referred to as either “Blind Pigs” or “Blind Tigers.”

Located at 1325 Sansom Street, the opening of Blind Barber reinvigorated the long-vacant Hale Building. Entered from the street, the three-chair barbershop is light, bright, and sleekly styled.

The speakeasy is on the second floor, which originally was only accessible by a stairway adjacent to the first-floor entrance. The project scope called for an entirely new staircase to be built at the back of the space, where it ascends into a cozy bar and seating area that feels like you’ve stepped back in time.  On the other side of the stairway is miniature banquette seating that RKA custom built using the frame of the existing cove windows.  â€‹â€‹
