RKA partnered with the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History to install a new sculpture in front of the museum at the corner of 5th and Market on bustling Independence Mall. Designed by Brooklyn artist Deborah Kass, the bright yellow aluminum construct is hard to miss due to its overall size spanning 16 feet in width, eight feet in height, and five feet in depth.

On exhibit for 12 months, OY/YO reflects clever wordplay using just two letters. One side says “YO,” referencing the attention-getting phrase used throughout Philly, as well as “I” in Spanish, whereas the other side reads “OY,” a popular Yiddish phrase used in Jewish and American culture.

RKA coordinated with the delivery company and an industrial lift service so that all equipment and materials were present at the time the sculpture was delivered. Project logistics required that SEPTA be notified so that their routes did not interfere with the work. Thanks to advance planning and efficient communication, the installation of the sculpture was flawlessly executed.
